About Us

The Story Behind the Booth

Our Mission

Flashback Booth exists because we believe the most meaningful photographs are the ones that feel earned. In an age of infinite perfect pixels buried in the cloud, we wanted to build something that slows you down — that gives you exactly four shots and asks you to make them count.

We are passionate about the tactile imperfection of analog photography. The grain, the light leaks, the slightly off-center composition — these aren't flaws to correct. They are the fingerprints of a real moment. Flashback Booth is our attempt to bottle that feeling and make it accessible to anyone with a browser and a camera.

We believe great tools should be free, private, and delightful. Everything we build is processed locally on your device — your memories are yours alone. No account required, no subscription, no strings attached.

What We Offer

Vintage Film Filters

Carefully crafted filters that replicate the grain, halation, and color shifts of classic film stocks — from punchy Kodachrome to washed-out Lomography.

Instant Photo Strips

Generate 4-frame photo strips styled after classic chemical photo booths, complete with authentic borders, timestamps, and retro typography.

Digital Time Capsules

Seal your memories in a wax-stamped digital letter to your future self. Set a date, write your thoughts, and let Flashback Booth deliver them.

Community Gallery

Share your best photo strips to a public wall where strangers can admire your captured moments — like pinning a photo to a real corkboard.

Privacy by Design

All photo processing happens entirely within your browser. We never upload, store, or analyze your images on our servers without your explicit consent.

100% Free, Forever

No subscriptions, no premium tiers, no watermarks on your downloads. Flashback Booth is — and always will be — a free tool for everyone.

Our Journey

Early 2026

The Idea

Frustrated by sterile, over-polished photo apps, Rishabh sketched out a concept: a web app that feels like stepping into a real photo booth from the 1990s.

March 2026

First Prototype

A rough canvas-based photo booth with two filters and zero UI polish. Shared with a handful of friends — the reaction was immediate excitement.

April 2026

Going Deep

Added the vintage corkboard interface, masking-tape navigation, brass pin decorations, and the full suite of retro film filters with authentic grain simulation.

May 2026

Public Launch

Launched on Product Hunt and social media. Thousands of photo strips were captured in the first week — far more than expected for a solo passion project.

Now

Growing Together

Continuously improving based on community feedback: time capsules, the letter writer, gallery features, and ongoing filter refinements.

The Person Behind It

Flashback Booth was designed and built by Rishabh Rai — a developer with a passion for beautiful interfaces, analog aesthetics, and tools that genuinely help people capture meaningful moments.

Rishabh started this project as a personal experiment in digital nostalgia after growing tired of photo apps that felt either too clinical or too gimmicky. The goal was simple: create something that makes people feel something when they use it — the same way holding a real photo strip does.

Every detail in Flashback Booth — the corkboard background, the masking tape navigation, the grain simulation, the wax-sealed envelopes — was deliberate. There are no shortcuts here. This is a labor of love.

Our Values

Privacy First

Your camera feed and photos never leave your device unless you explicitly choose to share them. We designed the entire processing pipeline to run locally in your browser.

Craft & Detail

We obsess over the small things — the exact grain texture, the precise color curve of a 1970s film stock, the weight of the paper on a scanned note. Details matter.

Open & Free

Flashback Booth is free for everyone. No paywalls, no ads on your photos, no watermarks. We want this tool to be accessible to every person with a browser.
